  Philogene has been at the centre of a bizarre transfer saga this summer. The Hull City winger was linked with a shock switch to Barcelona, with his agent even being spotted within the club's offices, before seemingly agreeing a deal to join Ipswich. Now, he is poised to move to Aston Villa instead.

  Philogene left Villa in 2023 to join Hull, after embarking on loan spells at Stoke City and Cardiff City, but the club have now activated their matching rights clause, which allowed them to match any bid tabled for the player. Per Fabrizio Romano, they will pay £13m ($17m) and he will sign a five-year deal.

  Philogene scored 12 goals and registered six assists for Hull in the Championship last season. He will now attempt to force his way into Unai Emery's Villa side; he has made a total of six appearances for the club thus far.
